Microsoft is aggressively encouraging Windows 10 users to upgrade to Windows 11, with the official end-of-support date for Windows 10 set for October 2025. This deadline means Windows 10 will no longer receive security updates or technical support from Microsoft. The impending support cutoff has spurred a gradual migration of Windows 10 users towards Windows 11, but the adoption rate hasn’t mirrored previous operating system transitions. As recently as July, Statcounter reported Windows 10 held double the market share of Windows 11, with 65% compared to Windows 11’s 29.75%. However, new data from Statcounter reveals a significant shift in the market landscape. Windows 10’s market share has dipped to 64.99%, while Windows 11 has achieved a milestone, surpassing 30% for the first time, now at 30.83%. Notably, Windows 11 has witnessed a substantial year-over-year growth of 7.17 percentage points, having a market share of 23.66% in July 2023. While these percentage changes might seem insignificant, it’s crucial to remember that the Windows user base is estimated to be around 1.5 billion. Even a single percentage point shift represents millions of users adopting the new operating system. This trend suggests that Microsoft’s efforts to push Windows 11 are gaining traction, especially with the end-of-support deadline for Windows 10 approaching.
