Microsoft has acknowledged and addressed the VPN connection issues experienced by users on Windows 11 and Windows 10 after installing the April security updates. The affected updates were KB5036893 for Windows 11 and KB5036892 for Windows 10.
To resolve these issues, Microsoft has released security updates KB5037771 for Windows 11 and KB5037768 for Windows 10. These updates are now available and should be pending installation on eligible Windows computers. You can manually check for updates by going to Settings > Windows Update > Check for updates. Alternatively, you can use the keyboard shortcut Windows + I to open the Settings app.
Microsoft recommends all Windows users to install the latest security updates for their devices. The affected versions of Windows 11 include 23H2, 22H2, and 21H2, while for Windows 10, the affected versions are 22H2 and 21H2.
In addition to resolving the VPN issues, the new security updates also fix a Bitlocker error (KB5034204) and an issue where updates to Microsoft Edge mistakenly caused the Copilot app to appear in the installed app list in the settings menus. Microsoft is also working on a fix for the Copilot issue amidst the ongoing controversy surrounding AI.
It is important to install the latest security updates to ensure the stability and security of your Windows device. By addressing these issues promptly, Microsoft demonstrates its commitment to providing a reliable and user-friendly operating system for its customers.
