Fauzia Qureshi, the newly appointed Executive Director of the Wisconsin Muslim Civic Alliance (WMCA), is laser-focused on connecting with and mobilizing the state’s growing Muslim community, which numbers close to 70,000. She recognizes that Muslim communities are flourishing not just in major cities like Milwaukee and Madison, but across the entire state. Franklin, in particular, is witnessing a surge in its Muslim population, making it one of the largest in Wisconsin. Data from the Voter Activation Network reveals that approximately 6% (2,100) of Muslim voters in the state reside in Franklin.
Gabriella Suliga, WMCA’s Director of Operations, highlights Fauzia’s deep roots in the community as a key factor in her appointment. The organization is committed to engaging with diverse Muslim communities across the state, ensuring their representation and participation, especially during election years.
Qureshi is optimistic about the future, envisioning a new generation of Muslim leaders emerging and contributing to the community’s growth. She believes that providing these leaders with opportunities to lead and make an impact will have a profound effect on the community’s trajectory.
