Microsoft is pulling out all the stops before the release of Deadpool and Wolverine, announcing a Wolverine-themed Xbox controller to join the Deadpool one released last week. This new controller follows the same design as its red counterpart, featuring a prominent backside, but in Wolverine’s signature yellow and blue colors with fake pockets.
Xbox’s general manager of Global Partnerships, Marcos Waltenberg, explained the decision behind the controller, stating it was driven by the positive fan response to the Deadpool controller. He wrote on Xbox Wire, “And because we can’t resist a little friendly competition (certainly not due to fear of his temper), our team went straight into production on this custom Wolverine-inspired Xbox Wireless Controller.”
Adding to the marketing frenzy, Xbox even erected a billboard advertising the controller in Alberta, Canada, Wolverine’s fictional hometown in the comics. While the speed of designing and producing this bespoke controller and billboard within a week is questionable, the opportunity to win one is real.
Similar to the Deadpool controller giveaway, fans can participate in a sweepstakes for a chance to own the Wolverine controller. To enter, participants must be over 18 and interact with the official social media post. However, finding the specific post on Microsoft’s Instagram account with the hashtag #MicrosoftCheekySweepstakes has proven challenging. Currently, the only way to obtain these controllers is by winning the sweepstakes.
In a surprising twist, the question of how a controller with a prominent backside would function was answered by Inverse executive editor Jacob Kleinman. He posted a video on X demonstrating that the butt is magnetically detachable. This aligns with the characters’ regenerative abilities, ensuring the butt can always grow back.
