A chilling incident unfolded in Aligarh, Uttar Pradesh, where a woman allegedly threw acid on a man, claiming he was blackmailing her and had broken a promise to marry her. According to reports, the woman and the man, identified as Vivek, met at a restaurant to discuss the threats he was making. However, the conversation took a violent turn when the woman attacked Vivek with acid, causing burn injuries to his arm.
Vivek, fearing for his safety, fled the scene before the police arrived. The woman, a mother, was taken into custody. She sustained burn injuries herself during the incident. When questioned by the police, she stated, “He was blackmailing me and asking for money, that’s why I threw acid on him. I didn’t marry him and married someone else. I’m divorced…he told me he would marry me, but he kept on threatening me.”
The restaurant manager corroborated the woman’s claim, stating that she told him Vivek had been harassing and blackmailing her for years, leading her to take such drastic action.
Assistant Commissioner of Police Mayank Pathak confirmed that the man and woman were known to each other. While acknowledging that it was too early to determine the validity of the woman’s claims, he assured that the police were investigating the matter thoroughly. They are also actively searching for Vivek, who remains at large.
This incident comes amidst another shocking case in Uttar Pradesh, where a Dalit school teacher, Sunil Kumar, and his family were murdered. The alleged perpetrator, Chandan Verma, claimed that the murder stemmed from a broken relationship with the teacher’s wife. However, Bhanu, the brother of the deceased woman, Poonam, vehemently denied Verma’s claims of an illicit relationship. He alleged that Verma had been pressuring his sister and had taken pictures with her forcefully, which are now being circulated.
The bodies of Sunil Kumar and Poonam were cremated on Saturday at Gola Ganga Ghat, while their children were buried. These tragic incidents highlight the increasing cases of violence and abuse, raising concerns about the safety and security of individuals, particularly women, in Uttar Pradesh. The authorities are investigating both cases thoroughly and ensuring that justice is served.
