World’s Tallest and Shortest Women Share Tea, Celebrating Differences on Guinness World Records Day

On Guinness World Records Day, a truly remarkable meeting took place at London’s prestigious Savoy Hotel. Rumeysa Gelgi, the world’s tallest woman, and Jyoti Amge, the world’s shortest woman, shared an afternoon tea, creating a heartwarming and unforgettable moment. Their height difference, an astonishing 152.36 centimeters (5 feet), served as a powerful symbol of diversity and acceptance.

Gelgi, towering at 215.16 centimeters (7 feet 0.7 inches), and Amge, measuring just 62.8 centimeters (2 feet 0.7 inches), spent the afternoon enjoying each other’s company. Despite their vast physical disparity, the two women discovered a surprising amount of common ground. “We do have things in common,” Gelgi shared in a statement, “We both love make-up, self-care, jewellery, and doing our nails.” She also humorously noted the challenges of making eye contact due to their significant height difference, but underscored the positive and memorable nature of their encounter.

Amge, who has achondroplasia, a condition affecting bone growth, expressed her delight at meeting Gelgi. “I’m so happy to meet my fellow record holder,” she stated, showcasing the mutual respect and admiration shared between these two extraordinary individuals.

Gelgi, a 27-year-old web designer from Turkey, was officially recognized as the tallest living woman in 2021. Her remarkable height is a result of Weaver syndrome, a rare genetic condition affecting a mere 27 people worldwide. Beyond her impressive height, Gelgi holds several additional Guinness World Records, including the largest hands on a woman (24.93 centimeters/9.81 inches), the longest back on a living female (59.90 centimeters/23.58 inches), and the longest ears on a person (female) at an average of 9.58 centimeters (3.77 inches). Her inspiring journey was even documented in the GWR documentary, *Rumeysa: Walking Tall*, which followed her experiences meeting other record holders across the United States.

Amge, an accomplished actress and media personality from India, is best known for her role as Ma Petite in the US TV series *American Horror Story: Freak Show*. Despite her petite stature, Amge has become a prominent figure, appearing on Italian and American television. She holds the title of the shortest actress ever, as recognized by GWR. The meeting between Gelgi and Amge was particularly significant as both women have recently been named GWR Icons, a new distinction for the 2025 edition of the Guinness World Records book.

Craig Glenday, GWR’s editor-in-chief, who attended the London meeting, aptly summarized the event’s significance: “These records are about celebrating differences. By bringing together these two amazing, iconic women, they can share their perspectives on life with each other and, also, with us.” Their meeting serves as a powerful reminder of the beauty of human diversity and the importance of celebrating individual uniqueness.
