In a move to promote environmental protection, the Council of Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR), a prominent research organization in India, has initiated ‘Wrinkles Acche Hai’ (WAH). This initiative encourages employees to wear wrinkled clothing on Mondays. By reducing ironing, CSIR aims to conserve energy and minimize carbon emissions, contributing to the fight against climate change.
The initiative is part of CSIR’s ‘Swachhata Pakhwada,’ a campaign that focuses on reducing electricity consumption in its laboratories across the country. It is estimated that ironing a single outfit releases approximately 200 grams of carbon dioxide. By opting for non-ironed clothing on Mondays, employees can help reduce these emissions significantly.
According to CSIR officials, the WAH initiative symbolizes the organization’s commitment to combating climate change. It highlights how even small actions, such as wearing wrinkled clothing, can contribute to this global effort.
The initiative will be piloted during June-August 2024, with a goal of reducing workplace electricity expenses by 10%. CSIR hopes that by raising awareness about the environmental impact of ironing, WAH will inspire individuals to make more sustainable choices in their daily lives.
