A JD Airlines plane touched down at Wuhu Xuanzhou Airport in Anhui province, China, on Friday, marking the launch of a new international air cargo route connecting Wuhu City with Hanoi, Vietnam. This route represents the first of its kind at Wuhu Xuanzhou Airport, signifying the city’s commitment to enhancing its global openness and integrating more deeply into the global economy. The airport views the new cargo route as crucial for accelerating the development of a globally accessible international air cargo network and building a competitive air cargo hub.
Wuhu Xuanzhou Airport received approval from the National Port Management Office to temporarily conduct cargo business on March 18, 2024. Since its official opening in April 2021, the airport has opened 41 passenger routes and 6 all-cargo routes. Classified as a medium-sized civilian airport and a specialized air cargo hub, Wuhu Xuanzhou Airport has seen impressive growth in its operations. In 2023, the airport handled 1.23 million passengers, a 218 percent increase from the previous year. Cargo and mail throughput exceeded 20,000 tonnes, representing a 314 percent year-on-year rise. This trend continued into 2024, with cargo and mail throughput reaching 11,600 tonnes in the first five months, a 191 percent year-on-year increase. The launch of the Wuhu-Hanoi cargo route signifies the airport’s commitment to leveraging its expanding infrastructure and capabilities to drive further growth in its cargo operations and contribute to the economic development of the region.
