Elon Musk’s social media platform X, formerly known as Twitter, has announced the launch of the X TV App. The app aims to provide consumers with an immersive entertainment experience on their smart TVs. According to CEO Linda Yaccarino, the X TV App will offer real-time, engaging content specifically tailored for the larger screen. Additionally, the app will feature a cross-device experience and allow users to organize videos based on specific subjects for a personalized viewing experience.
The launch of the X TV App is an interesting development considering Elon Musk’s previous criticisms of Meta Inc.’s Instagram. Musk has often expressed his dislike for Instagram, particularly its use of a logo watermark on downloaded Reels. In a recent post on X, Musk reiterated his disapproval, stating that the watermark is intrusive and detracts from the video experience.
X has also faced recent challenges related to content moderation. Last week, South Korea’s leading automaker Hyundai decided to halt its advertising on X after discovering that a sponsored post from the company was placed alongside anti-Semitic and pro-Nazi content. Similarly, Pakistan’s Interior Ministry blocked access to X in February due to concerns over national security.
Despite these controversies, the X TV App represents a significant step in Musk’s efforts to expand the platform’s offerings and provide users with a more engaging and personalized entertainment experience.
