Bayern Munich’s hopes of signing Netherlands forward Xavi Simons have been put on hold, as the player has agreed to extend his loan at RB Leipzig from Paris Saint-Germain for another season. The news, announced on Monday by Leipzig, brings an end to speculation surrounding Simons’ future.
Leipzig confirmed that the 21-year-old Simons will undergo a medical examination on Monday before beginning individual training. He is scheduled to join the rest of the team for training on Tuesday.
Bayern had openly expressed their admiration for Simons following his impressive performance at Euro 2024 with the Netherlands. Bayern sporting director Christoph Freund lauded Simons’ talent, stating, “He has everything, including mentality and character. An exceptionally good player.”
Simons, who has earned 20 caps for the Netherlands, enjoyed a successful season at Leipzig, scoring 10 goals and registering 15 assists in 43 appearances. He will wear the No. 10 jersey for Leipzig in the upcoming campaign.
