Xavier Worthy, a highly touted prospect in the upcoming 2024 NFL Draft, has expressed his appreciation for his former coach, Chris Maxey, with a generous gesture. In collaboration with TCL, Worthy gifted Maxey a massive 98″ TV. According to Worthy, Maxey has been a guiding figure in his life, encouraging him to pursue track and field. This decision proved pivotal in Worthy’s athletic development, culminating in his record-breaking 40-yard dash performance at the 2024 NFL Combine.
During his junior year at Central High School, Worthy played a key role in the Grizzlies’ 2019 D-1AA state championship victory. However, his senior season was unfortunately cut short due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Nonetheless, Worthy’s talent shone through at the University of Texas, where he equaled the freshman touchdown record and concluded his Longhorns career with 26 TD receptions, placing him third in program history.
Coach Maxey first encountered Worthy when he was in the third grade and immediately recognized his exceptional athletic potential. As a seventh-grader, Maxey accompanied Worthy on a six-day trip to Virginia for the Junior Olympics, stepping in when Worthy’s mother was unable to take time off work. Maxey expressed his pride and gratitude for Worthy’s acknowledgment of his support.
The NFL Draft will commence tomorrow, with the first round airing at 5:00 PM on ABC30. Worthy’s performance in the draft will undoubtedly be highly anticipated as he aims to make a successful transition to the professional ranks.
