Five pitches into Monday afternoon’s game between the New York Yankees and Oakland Athletics, manager Aaron Boone was ejected from the game. The ejection came after Boone complained about a strike call on Tyler Nevin and apparently a fan behind the Yankees dugout yelled at plate umpire Hunter Wendelstedt.
Boone was furious and screamed at Wendelstedt and third base umpire Marvin Hudson. Wendelstedt responded by saying, “I don’t care who said it. You’re gone!”
Boone turned around to yell three times after walking back to the Yankees dugout. This was the second ejection of the season for Boone, who was tossed seven times in 2023. With Boone out of the dugout, bench coach Brad Ausmus took over the managing.
The ejection was a controversial one, with many fans and commentators questioning whether or not Boone deserved to be thrown out of the game. However, Wendelstedt maintained that he made the right call.
“I don’t care who said it. You’re gone!”
This ejection is sure to add fuel to the ongoing debate about the role of umpires in baseball. Some fans believe that umpires have too much power and that they can often make the game unfair. Others believe that umpires are essential to the game and that they should be respected.
Whatever your opinion on the matter, there is no doubt that the ejection of Aaron Boone was a major moment in Monday’s game.
