Yankees Manager Aaron Boone Ejected for Comments Made by Fan

During the first inning of the Yankees’ game against the Oakland A’s, home plate umpire Hunter Wendelstedt issued a warning to the Yankees bench for comments made regarding a previous call on a check swing.

Yankees manager Aaron Boone remained silent in his usual spot in the dugout but was ejected moments later by Wendelstedt. Boone protested that he had not said anything, but Wendelstedt responded, “I don’t care who said it, you’re gone.”

Replays showed that Boone was not the one who made the comments, but a fan in the stands. Boone and bench coach Brad Ausmus pointed towards the stands in an attempt to explain this to Wendelstedt.

Despite Boone’s protests, Wendelstedt refused to listen and ejected him from the game.

The ejection was a bizarre turn of events and left the Yankees without their manager for the remainder of the game.
