Rajasthan Royals (RR) skipper Sanju Samson hailed the blistering performance of 22-year-old batter Yashasvi Jaiswal, who smashed a match-winning 104 against Mumbai Indians (MI) in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024. Jaiswal’s century propelled the Royals to a commanding 9-wicket victory, solidifying their dominance in the tournament.
Samson showered praise on the young batter, emphasizing his unwavering confidence and exceptional talent. He remarked that Jaiswal requires no external guidance, showcasing his immense self-belief. The Royals skipper also commended his entire team for their exceptional performance, crediting them for the resounding victory.
Commenting on the pitch conditions, Samson acknowledged that it was initially dry but became more conducive for batting in the second innings. This change allowed the Royals to showcase their batting prowess, with Jaiswal leading the charge.
MI opted to bat first after winning the toss, with Tilak Varma and Nehal Wadhera emerging as their standout performers. Their contributions propelled MI to a competitive 179/9. However, the Royals’ bowling attack proved too formidable, with Sandeep Sharma capturing an impressive five wickets in his four-over spell and Trent Boult chipping in with two wickets.
During the run chase, Jaiswal’s masterful century guided the Royals to their seventh win of the season, further consolidating their position at the top of the IPL 2024 standings. Piyush Chawla was the lone wicket-taker for MI. The Royals now hold a comfortable lead in the standings with 14 points, while MI remains in seventh place with six points.
