Yorkshire Vet viewers were left distracted by the size of a pig named Pablo during a recent episode of the Channel 5 program. Pablo’s owner, Libby, had called in vet Rohin Aojula to perform a procedure on the pig, which involved cutting back his trotters and tusks. Before starting the procedure, Libby warned Rohin that Pablo could be a difficult patient, explaining that he doesn’t like vets. Rohin acknowledged the challenge, stating that pigs are highly intelligent and powerful, making them difficult to cooperate with.
He went on to explain that they would partially sedate Pablo for the procedure, but emphasized the risks involved, including the possibility of death. Libby and a trainee vet were tasked with sitting on Pablo’s back to prevent him from getting up during the procedure. Despite her initial anxiety, Libby expressed her love for Pablo and stated that she couldn’t live without him.
Viewers at home were more focused on Pablo’s appearance, with some commenting on his large size and expressing concern over his weight. One viewer wrote on Twitter: “That’s all a vet needs when he’s about to sedate a pig as big as a tank – the owner saying ‘he’s my world’!”. Another commented: “That pig is overweight stomach hanging on the floor.”
Despite the initial concerns, the procedure was successful, with Rohin expressing relief that it went as well as it could have. The Yorkshire Vet airs on Tuesdays at 8pm on Channel 5.
