YouTube Music Black Screen Bug Impacts iOS Users

A substantial number of YouTube Music users on iOS devices are currently encountering a black screen bug that effectively renders the app unusable. This issue prevents affected users from accessing the app’s features and appears to be linked to specific Google Accounts. When attempting to open the app, users are greeted with a blank screen that displays only the app bar, which includes YouTube Music’s logo, search bar, and profile avatar, as well as the bottom bar that typically provides navigation options like Home, Explore, and Library. However, in this case, the navigation element only shows Home, Explore, and Library, with the Samples tab loading in afterward. The app’s core functionality, such as browsing music and initiating playback, is completely inaccessible due to this issue. Interestingly, some users have found a temporary workaround by switching to a different Google Account and listening to music with advertisements. However, this solution does not restore access to their YouTube Premium subscription and library, which remain unavailable on the affected account. According to current reports, this black screen bug appears to be exclusive to the iOS client, as the Android app is functioning normally. It is worth noting that this issue has emerged after the most recent app update (version 6.48.3), which was released over the weekend. While numerous users have reported experiencing this problem, not all iOS users are affected, and our own testing has confirmed that some devices are operating normally. In addition to the black screen bug, some users have also encountered a separate issue where the usual next and previous buttons in the iPhone app have been replaced by 30-second forward and 10-second rewind controls. This modification may be beneficial for podcast listeners, but it is less practical for music playback. This issue has been observed in CarPlay and the system-level Now Playing controls on the lock screen. However, we have not encountered this issue on our own devices.
