YouTube content creators may soon have a powerful new tool at their disposal thanks to Google’s experimental ‘brainstorm with Gemini’ feature. This AI-powered tool, currently in a limited beta phase, allows creators to generate video topic, title, and even thumbnail ideas with the help of Gemini AI.
Google is seeking feedback from a select group of creators before deciding whether to roll out the feature to all users. The company is aiming to develop the feature thoughtfully and make improvements based on feedback received.
The ‘brainstorm with Gemini’ feature will be accessible through YouTube’s analytics menu, under the research tab. It will use Google’s large language model to generate idea prompts for video topics, specific talking points, and even progression ideas. The AI will also be able to generate thumbnail suggestions using image generation capabilities.
This is the second time Google has incorporated AI assistance into YouTube’s creative processes. In May, the company launched a content inspiration tool on YouTube Studio that provides tips and suggestions for future video topics based on viewer trends. This tool highlights related videos already published by the creator, provides thematic tips, and generates script outlines.
Creators participating in the ‘brainstorm with Gemini’ experiment will have access to both the inspiration tool and the Gemini feature after inputting their video idea in the Studio search bar. Google is using this as an A/B testing method to see which feature creators prefer or if they utilize both.
It is unlikely that these features will fall under YouTube’s AI transparency guidelines established in March, which mainly focuses on labeling AI-generated images and videos. YouTube acknowledges that generative AI is transforming how creators express themselves and that viewers increasingly want transparency about the authenticity of content.
