Kikuchi, who signed a three-year contract with the Blue Jays in the offseason, made his first start of the season. He faced a tough Yankees lineup that included Aaron Judge, Anthony Rizzo, and Giancarlo Stanton.

Kikuchi allowed one hit and one walk in his first inning of work. He struck out one batter and threw 19 pitches.

The Blue Jays went on to lose the game 4-3 in 10 innings.
