Zebra Space Celebrates 12 Years with New Cocktails and Art Installations

Zebra Space, renowned for its unique blend of bar and art gallery, is celebrating its 12th anniversary this Sunday, September 1st, with a series of exciting new offerings. Located in the heart of Bixiga, the space is managed by the couple Néli Pereira, mixologist and columnist for Vogue Brasil, and Renato Larini, visual artist. For over a decade, they have transformed the establishment into a hub for independent art and exceptional cocktails.

To mark the anniversary, Zebra is unveiling a new cocktail menu featuring “low intervention” drinks, meticulously crafted by Néli Pereira. This style, borrowing its name from the world of wines, emphasizes drinks with minimal ingredients and human intervention. “My cocktail creations have always been about showcasing the ingredients as the stars, not about the alcohol itself,” explains Néli.

Among the new additions is the Dracula cocktail, which combines black garlic, cacao liqueur, and the Japanese spirit awamori, highlighting the sweetness and umami of the black garlic. Another standout is the Marafo, inspired by the Orixá Exu, made with fatwash of palm oil in cachaça, honey, and tar liqueur. The new menu also includes the Carioca, infused with coffee beans and Fernet, and the “Avoa,” a variation on the Paper Plane with homemade catuaba.

“I don’t like drinks with too many ingredients where everything gets lost. My mixology isn’t about me, it’s about Brazil,” she concludes. The new menu will be added to the bar’s classic offerings, such as the Cupu do Combu and the Treme Fitzgerald, and is available starting this weekend.

Since its inception in 2012, Zebra Space has become a landmark for São Paulo’s bohemian and artistic culture. Originally the couple’s residence until 2017, the warehouse has hosted a variety of artistic expressions and performances, solidifying its position as one of the city’s first multidisciplinary centers.

Beyond the new cocktails, Zebra also offers a menu of snacks ranging from pork belly bao (R$ 28) to meat balls (R$ 18) and zucchini carpaccio (R$ 50), along with beer options. Zebra Space is also announcing a series of new additions for the rest of the year. In October, Renato Larini’s signature performances will return. In previous years, Zebra hosted events like “Design ao Vivo,” where Larini assembled furniture live with a mic’d-up carpentry shop, accompanied by a band following the sounds of the machines. The space also pioneered immersive, sound-tracked dinners that combined art, cuisine, and mixology.

Now, Larini is launching the “Sala do Despacho,” a new space for sound performances, equipped with a sound system and the structure of a wall-mounted piano, designed to generate sounds and noises during happenings. Additionally, the visual artist is preparing a new exhibition titled “Bestiário,” slated for November, which will occupy the first floor with works in mixed media.

It’s worth noting that Zebra continues to operate regularly on Fridays and Saturdays from 7 pm to midnight.
