The celestial world of zodiac signs and planets has inspired a unique collaboration between Swiss designer Kevin Germanier and Brazilian crocheting project Ponto Firme. This marks their fourth collaboration, with Germanier continuing to support Ponto Firme’s mission to provide technical training in crocheting to inmates at the Adriano Marrey Penitentiary in Guarulhos, Brazil, since 2015.
The resulting collection bursts with vibrant energy, showcasing playful and dazzling looks reminiscent of the ocean’s depths. Headpieces resemble sea urchins, and shimmering materials evoke images of mermaids and other mythical creatures. “We used recycled sequins and a crocheted fabric that I created exclusively for this collection,” Gustavo Silvestre, the founder of Ponto Firme, told Vogue, describing the 10 looks he designed for the collection. “Kevin and I share a strong synergy in our work. We both prioritize sustainability, manual techniques, vibrant colors, and dazzling effects. It’s incredible to connect with someone on the other side of the world who is conducting research and creating work similar to what we do in Brazil.”
This collaboration is a testament to the power of creativity to transcend borders and inspire positive change. Through the fusion of artistic expression, sustainable practices, and social impact, Kevin Germanier and Ponto Firme have created a truly remarkable collection that celebrates the beauty of the natural world while empowering individuals and fostering a sense of hope.
