The tech world was buzzing with excitement after leaked footage from an Indonesian factory hinted at an early glimpse of NVIDIA’s next-gen flagship GeForce RTX 5090 graphics card, courtesy of ZOTAC Gaming. The footage, though grainy, revealed a single 16-pin connector, leading many to believe that the RTX 5090 would be a power-hungry beast requiring only one connector. However, it turns out that the footage was actually showcasing a different beast entirely: ZOTAC’s colossal GeForce RTX 4070 Ti SUPER, dubbed the ‘SUPER SOLID’ model.
The footage, captured during an internal training session at the factory, was intended to test new production equipment. But the sheer size of the ZOTAC RTX 4070 Ti SUPER SOLID quickly caused a stir, with its massive dimensions (336.5mm x 136mm x 74.8mm) easily surpassing most GPUs. In fact, it’s one of the largest GPUs ever made by ZOTAC, taking up a whopping 3.7 slots of GPU thickness. To further fuel the confusion, the card also utilizes a cut-down RTX 4090 AD102 chip, making it even more impressive in terms of performance.
While the news of the ZOTAC RTX 4070 Ti SUPER SOLID might disappoint those who were hoping for a sneak peek at the RTX 5090, it’s important to remember that the real deal is still on the horizon. According to multiple credible sources, the GeForce RTX 5090, along with its slightly less powerful sibling, the GeForce RTX 5080, will be officially unveiled at CES 2025 in January. A release is expected shortly after, potentially later in the same month. So, while we may have been tricked by a behemoth of a GPU, the anticipation for the true RTX 5090 remains high. We can only hope that the RTX 5090 will be as impressive as rumored, with perhaps a more compact design, like the rumored 2-slot GeForce RTX 5090 Founders Edition.
