Unlike traditional stroke play events, the Zurich Classic of New Orleans employs a unique team format. Teams of two players alternate formats, playing Four-ball on Thursday and Saturday and foursomes on Friday and Sunday.
80 teams compete, with the top 33 advancing to the weekend. The winning team earns 800 FedEx Cup points, two-year exemptions on the PGA Tour, but no invitations to the following year’s event.
Patrick Cantlay and Xander Schauffele are the favorites, but have struggled to close out tournaments this season. Sahith Theegala and Will Zalatoris, both with recent top-10 finishes, are considered strong contenders.
Other notable teams include:
– Shane Lowry and Rory McIlroy
– Jon Rahm and Ryan Palmer
– Matthew Fitzpatrick and Alex Fitzpatrick
– Nicolai Højgaard and Rasmus Højgaard
– Pierceson Coody and Parker Coody
The Zurich Classic marks the first time in PGA Tour history that two sets of twins will compete in the same event.
Cantlay and Schauffele enter as favorites, but Theegala and Zalatoris offer solid value at +1100 odds.
