Corning Energy Corporation CEO Michael German to Retire After 18 Years

Corning Energy Corporation, formerly known as Corning Natural Gas Holding Corporation, announced the retirement of its CEO, Michael German. This decision comes after 18 years with the company and a total of 48 years dedicated to the energy sector. German’s retirement is effective December 31, 2024.

German joined Corning Natural Gas Corporation in 2006 and has played a pivotal role in the company’s growth and resilience. Under his leadership, the company saw significant milestones including the formation of Leatherstocking Gas Company in 2011, the first new utility in Pennsylvania in 40 years. In 2013, Corning Natural Gas Holding Corporation became a publicly traded company. In 2016, Pike County Light & Power, a Pennsylvania combination gas and electric utility, was acquired. German also spearheaded the merger of the company’s suite of businesses into a private investment firm in 2022, subsequently changing the holding company name to Corning Energy Corporation.

German has expertly navigated the company through dynamic regulatory landscapes while expanding operations, leveraging his extensive experience and knowledge. His visionary approach and unwavering commitment have propelled Corning Energy Corporation into a leading position in the utility industry.

Recognizing German’s valuable experience and insights, the Corning Energy Board of Directors has requested that he continue to contribute to the company as a consultant to the incoming CEO. This will ensure a seamless transition and the continuation of the company’s strategic initiatives. Additionally, German will maintain his position on the board of directors, where his expertise will continue to shape Corning Energy’s future.

The board has initiated the search for a successor to German and aims to appoint a new CEO shortly before his retirement, ensuring a smooth and effective leadership transition.

Joseph Fontana, Chairman of the Board of Directors, expressed gratitude for German’s dedication and vision, stating, “Michael German’s dedication and vision have left an indelible mark on Corning Energy. We are deeply grateful for his years of service and leadership. We look forward to celebrating his many accomplishments and his ongoing involvement with the company.”

Prior to joining Corning Energy in 2006, German held senior positions in the energy sector. He served as senior vice president, utility operations for Southern Union Company, overseeing gas utility operations in Missouri, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island, and Massachusetts. From 1994 to 2005, he held various senior positions at Energy East Corporation, including president of several subsidiary utilities. His career also included roles at the American Gas Association and the US Energy Research and Development Administration.
