Amazon Employees Push Back Against Mandatory Return-to-Office Policy

Amazon’s recent announcement mandating a full return to the office for corporate employees has sparked widespread discontent, according to a survey conducted by Blind, an anonymous tech worker forum. A staggering 91% of 2,585 Amazon professionals surveyed expressed dissatisfaction with the new policy, which was unveiled in a memo from CEO Andy Jassy.

The policy shift has raised eyebrows, especially among employees who were hired remotely and live far from an Amazon office. Many voiced concerns about the impracticality of relocating, particularly those with families and commitments in their current locations. The new policy marks a significant departure from Amazon’s previous hybrid approach, implemented in June 2023, which allowed employees to work from the office at least three days a week. He cited the company’s positive experiences with the hybrid model over the past 15 months as evidence of these benefits.

However, the decision has triggered a debate about the future of work in the tech industry. While Amazon has chosen to fully embrace a return to the office, other tech giants like Apple, Microsoft, Google, and Meta have opted for a hybrid model, requiring employees to work from the office at least two or three days a week.
