Get ready for a cinematic treasure hunt! Some of the most iconic costumes and props from TV and cinema are set to go under the hammer at Propstore’s Entertainment Memorabilia Live Auction in London next month. This highly anticipated event, taking place at BAFTA on November 14th and 15th, will feature nearly 2,000 items of film memorabilia, with an online-only auction following on November 16th and 17th.
The auction promises to be a collector’s dream, with some items expected to sell for figures in the hundreds of thousands. Leading the pack is the Stormtrooper helmet used in the Jedi mind trick scene from Star Wars: Episode V – The Empire Strikes Back, estimated to fetch a whopping £500,000 (€596,000).
Following closely behind is the Batsuit worn by Michael Keaton in Tim Burton’s 1992 Batman Returns. This iconic piece of costume design is expected to sell for as much as £200,000 (€238,000).
Another highlight is the arena helmet and mask worn by Russell Crowe as Maximus Decimus Meridius in Ridley Scott’s 2000 film Gladiator. This piece could see a significant price increase due to the anticipated release of the highly-anticipated sequel, Gladiator 2, later this year.
For art enthusiasts, a hand-painted poster by Robert McGinnis for the 1971 film The French Connection is expected to sell for as much as £300,000 (€358,000). And fans of Back to the Future will have a chance to own Marty McFly’s screen-matched futuristic resizing jacket from the 1989 film, which could fetch up to £120,000 (€143,000).
The auction also features a selection of costumes from other iconic films, including Mary Poppins (1963), Batman (1966), and Blade Runner (1982).
Beyond costumes, some of the most iconic headwear from Hollywood films is also going up for auction. This includes the Dread Pirate Roberts’ eye-mask bandana worn by Cary Elwes in The Princess Bride (1987), a Henry Winkler-signed version of the Ghostface mask from Scream (1996), a screen-matched muzzle worn by Tom Hardy’s Max in Mad Max: Fury Road (2015), and one of Captain Jack Sparrow’s hats, worn by Johnny Depp in Pirates of the Caribbean: The Curse of the Black Pearl (2007).
“Following our entertainment memorabilia live auction in Los Angeles this August where Indiana Jones’ hat achieved a record-breaking $630,000 (€751,000), we are delighted to announce our UK sale,” said Stephen Lane, founder and chief executive of Propstore.
