While the incident in Pune underscores the tragic consequences of reckless driving, the Diwali celebrations across India were also marked by a spike in fire incidents. According to PTI, Pune saw a total of 35 fire incidents reported on Lakshmi Puja day, the day after Diwali, between 7 pm on November 1st and 7 am on November 2nd. The Pune Municipal Corporation’s fire department attributed the increase to the use of firecrackers and mishandling of electrical appliances during the festivities.
Meanwhile, Delhi Fire Services reported a staggering number of fire calls on Diwali, receiving around 400 calls on November 1st. This record-breaking number, surpassing the previous day’s 320 calls, underscores the need for increased vigilance and awareness regarding fire safety measures during festivals. The Delhi Fire Services Director, Atul Garg, highlighted the significant increase in fire calls, emphasizing the importance of taking precautionary measures to prevent such incidents.
The unfortunate incident in Pune serves as a grim reminder of the need for responsible driving practices and stricter enforcement of traffic rules during festivals. The increased number of fire incidents across the country underscores the importance of fire safety education and awareness programs to minimize risks and ensure safe celebrations. It’s crucial that individuals prioritize safety and responsible behavior during festivals, ensuring that joyous occasions don’t turn into tragedies.
