In the wake of the world’s mourning over the loss of Aaron Carter, his twin sister, Angel Carter Conrad, has embarked on a mission to share his unfinished musical legacy. After years of meticulous preparation, Angel, along with Aaron’s producer, Jeff Pearce, is set to release “Blacklisted,” a collection of Aaron’s previously unheard music, on May 24th.
For over a decade, Aaron had been diligently working on this album, pouring his heart and soul into each track. However, his untimely passing in 2022, a consequence of mental health struggles and addiction, left his musical aspirations unfulfilled. Recognizing the significance of Aaron’s creative vision, Angel and Jeff felt compelled to bring his music to light, honoring his memory and continuing his artistic journey.
“The fans have been eagerly anticipating this music,” Angel shared in an interview. “After Aaron passed away, we organized a tribute concert, ‘Aaron’s Party,’ where we performed some of these songs. The response from the fans was overwhelming; they implored us to release this album.”
A snippet of the title track, “Blacklisted,” was unveiled during the interview, offering a glimpse into the emotional depth of Aaron’s lyrics. Set to be released on streaming services on April 26th, the song encapsulates the singer’s resilience and determination to overcome adversity.
Proceeds from “Blacklisted” will be directed towards two meaningful causes. The Kids’ Mental Health nonprofit, formerly known as On Our Sleeves, will receive a portion of the funds to support their mission of promoting mental well-being among children and adolescents. Additionally, a trust fund has been established for Aaron’s two-year-old son, Prince, ensuring his future financial stability.
Angel’s decision to release “Blacklisted” is rooted in her desire to turn tragedy into purpose. Having experienced the profound loss of two sisters, Leslie and Bobbie Jean, due to drug overdoses, she finds solace in using Aaron’s platform and her own to raise awareness about mental health and addiction. “The good that can come out of this situation is that Aaron has a platform, and my family has a platform,” Angel remarked. “We want to help others, learn from our story, and turn this ship around.”
Aaron’s passing in November 2022 sent shockwaves through the music industry and beyond. The coroner’s report attributed his death to drowning in a bathtub due to the combined effects of difluoroethane and alprazolam. The announcement of the album’s release earlier this month was met with both anticipation and a sense of bittersweet closure. “I understand why the album didn’t see the light of day for almost 10 years,” Jeff Pearce stated. “There is a bigger purpose for it now. Aaron would be so grateful that his story lived beyond the tragedy, bringing awareness and hope to future generations.”
“Blacklisted” stands as a testament to Aaron Carter’s enduring talent, his struggles, and the love that continues to surround him. Through this album, his spirit lives on, inspiring hope and offering a poignant reminder of the importance of mental health awareness and the power of music to heal and connect.
