BJD’s Puri Nominee Faints Amid Heatwave
Former Mumbai police commissioner and Biju Janata Dal (BJD) candidate for the Puri Lok Sabha seat, Arup Patnaik, fainted due to heatstroke during campaigning in Pipili on Monday. Patnaik, 67, was immediately taken to the nearby community health centre and later shifted to the Capital Hospital in Bhubaneswar. Doctors have advised him to rest and avoid campaigning during peak sun hours.
Warning Against Sun Exposure
With temperatures soaring over 43 degrees Celsius, candidates from different parties have been struggling to cope with the extreme heat. The Election Commission has warned against sun exposure and urged candidates to take adequate measures while campaigning during the heatwave.
Odisha Elections
Odisha will go to the polls in four phases on May 13, 20, 25, and June 1. Election officials have held meetings with political parties to ensure candidates’ well-being during the heatwave.
Patnaik resumed campaigning in the evening and released a video message informing supporters about his health. He urged voters to take precautions against the heat and stay hydrated.
