IMD Forecasts Heatwave, Heavy Rains in India

The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) has predicted heatwave to severe heatwave conditions in several parts of the country till June 9. The IMD has issued an orange alert for very heavy rains in Goa, Konkan, Madhya Maharashtra, Coastal Karnataka, Assam and Meghalaya. The IMD has advised people to take precautions against the heat and avoid outdoor activities during peak hours.

The heatwave conditions are expected to affect the states of Rajasthan, Punjab, Haryana, Delhi, Uttar Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh, Chhattisgarh, Odisha, Telangana, Andhra Pradesh and Karnataka. The IMD has warned that the heatwave conditions could lead to heat-related illnesses such as heat cramps, heat exhaustion and heatstroke.

The IMD has also issued an orange alert for very heavy rains in Goa, Konkan, Madhya Maharashtra, Coastal Karnataka, Assam and Meghalaya. The IMD has warned that these areas could receive rainfall of up to 20 cm in a 24-hour period. The IMD has advised people in these areas to be prepared for flooding and landslides.

The IMD has advised people to take precautions against the heat and avoid outdoor activities during peak hours. People should also drink plenty of fluids and wear loose, light-colored clothing. The IMD has also advised people to be aware of the signs of heat-related illness and to seek medical attention if they experience any of these symptoms.
