Delta Burke, known for her role as Suzanne Sugarbaker on ‘Designing Women,’ has opened up about her struggles with weight and drug use in pursuit of a thinner figure.
While attending acting school in London, Burke was first prescribed weight-loss pills. However, upon returning to the United States, she discovered that the prescription was illegal there. During her time on ‘Filthy Rich’ from 1982 to 1983, she obtained similar pills, which she referred to as ‘Black Beauties,’ to curb her appetite.
However, Burke’s tolerance for the pills eventually increased, leading her to resort to methamphetamine, which was suggested by a coworker. She initially dissolved the meth in cranberry juice, resulting in a five-day period of not eating.
Despite her drastic measures, Burke still faced criticism for her body, which negatively impacted her mental health and contributed to her early exit from ‘Designing Women.’ It’s worth noting that Burke’s experience with drug use is not unique among celebrities seeking body transformations. However, the current trend among high-profile individuals is to use prescription weight-loss medications, such as Wegovy and Ozempic, rather than illegal drugs.
