In a significant step towards bolstering the mental well-being of its residents, the Dubai Health Authority (DHA) has launched a comprehensive mental health framework with an allocated budget of AED 105 million. This initiative, spearheaded under the directives of HH Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Crown Prince of Dubai, Deputy Prime Minister, Minister of Defence, and Chairman of The Executive Council of Dubai, aligns perfectly with the objectives of the Dubai Social Agenda 33. This agenda aims to solidify Dubai’s position as the world’s most desirable location for living, working, and visiting.
The Mental Health Framework encompasses a set of 10 strategic goals, aiming to transform mental healthcare within the next five years. At its core, the framework seeks to establish a comprehensive care model that addresses all facets of mental well-being services, ranging from early detection and intervention to enhancement and prevention. This framework is designed to cater to all segments of Dubai’s diverse society, prioritizing support for vulnerable groups such as the elderly, children, individuals with disabilities, and those living with chronic diseases. The framework intends to provide high-quality counseling services, recognizing their importance in promoting psychological stability and fostering a healthier community.
The framework’s impact extends beyond individual well-being, as it actively targets the educational environment. By empowering school staff and parents, the initiative aims to nurture and develop students’ psychological capacities, cultivating resilience and emotional intelligence from a young age.
Beyond the provision of direct care services, the Mental Health Framework also places significant emphasis on research, innovation, and continuous improvement. The framework will oversee a series of studies, with the aim of ensuring the ongoing measurement and attainment of both psychological and community stability.
The launch of this comprehensive framework signifies Dubai’s commitment to prioritizing the mental health and well-being of its residents. Awadh Seghayer Al Ketbi, Director-General of the Dubai Health Authority, underscored this commitment, stating, “Guided by the vision of His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President, Prime Minister and Ruler of Dubai, Dubai continues to advance across various fields and strengthen its status as a leading global city and community of the future.” Al Ketbi further highlighted the Mental Wealth Framework’s contribution to enhancing Dubai’s global reputation as a destination renowned for its high quality of life.
