Doing business is not an easy job. It involves taking risks that can have significant consequences. One wrong decision can put a lot of financial pressure on your shoulders, impacting not only your business but also your personal finances. Such is the story of Amit Kumat, CEO and MD of Prataap Snacks Limited who despite having a severe financial burden, never gave up and went to build a popular brand in the Indian snack market.
Amit took a bold step to start his career in business. He decided to venture into chemical manufacturing. A decision that soon proved to be putting a lot of financial burden on him. This decision led to a debt of Rs 6 crore in just one year. Under such difficult circumstances, Amit was resilient and accepted all the challenges.
Later, he thought of selling snacks in Indore in early 2002 and approached brother Apurva Kumat and friend Arvind Mehta. After convincing his family to invest Rs 15 lakh with the assurance to return the money if the business failed, the trio started selling cheese balls. Starting out from a tiny workspace based in Indore, his determination and entrepreneurial spirit soon started paying off. The sales started increasing which later led to the establishment of Prataap Snacks in 2003, which served as the cornerstone for the renowned Yellow Diamond brand, known for its namkeen and potato chips. His growth from humble beginnings to a notable player in the snacking sector reflects his steadfast commitment.
After his business became successful, he hired Salman Khan as the brand ambassador of the company. For the fiscal year that concluded on March 31, 2022, Prataap Snacks recorded a substantial operational revenue that surpassed a whopping Rs 500 crore. The company runs four factories across the country, alongside a vast distribution network. This network comprises of 2,900 distributors and 168 super stockists spread across 24 states and one union territory.
At present, Prataap Snacks boasts an impressive market capitalisation of Rs 23.08 billion (Rs 2308 crore approximately). The DNA app is now available for download on the Google Play Store. Please download the app and share your feedback with us.
