Gujarat High Court Questions State Government Over Rajkot Fire Incident Suspensions
The Gujarat High Court has raised concerns regarding the suspension of only junior-level officers in the aftermath of the Rajkot game zone fire incident that resulted in the tragic loss of 27 lives. The court questioned the state government’s decision not to suspend the city municipal commissioner and inquired about the absence of Section 302 of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) being invoked in the case.
The court also noted a plea demanding the booking of 13 more officers in connection with the incident, which has been accepted and scheduled for a hearing on June 20. The main accused, identified as Dhaval Thakkar, was apprehended by Banaskantha Local Crime Branch and Rajkot Police following the fire.
The incident has prompted inspections and temporary closures of gaming zones in Vadodara. The Gujarat High Court’s scrutiny of the government’s actions reflects the severity of the fire incident and the need for thorough investigations and appropriate accountability.
