Halle Bailey, the singer and actor who recently welcomed her first child, has opened up about her experience with postpartum depression.
In a Snapchat video, Bailey shared that she has been experiencing ‘severe, severe postpartum [depression],’ to the point where it’s ‘really bad’ and she has difficulty being separated from her baby for more than 30 minutes at a time.
Bailey praises her partner, DDG, for his parenting and support, calling him ‘the most amazing daddy in the world.’ She also acknowledges the overwhelming love she has for her son, Halo, but expresses that the only thing that’s been hard for her is feeling normal in her own body.
‘I feel like a completely different person when I look in the mirror,’ she says. ‘I just feel like I’m in a whole new body, and I don’t know who I am.’
Bailey admits that she didn’t realize how serious of a thing postpartum depression is before experiencing it herself. ‘Now going through it, it feels like you’re swimming in this ocean that’s like the biggest waves you’ve ever felt, and you’re trying not to drown,’ she explains.
Bailey emphasizes that her postpartum depression is not related to her baby, but rather to her own identity and well-being. She also stresses the importance of seeking support and acknowledging that even celebrities can struggle with mental health issues.
