The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecast moderate to heavy rain in Mumbai and its suburbs, with the possibility of very heavy rainfall in isolated areas. The maximum and minimum temperatures are expected to be around 28 and 24 degrees Celsius respectively. The IMD issued a yellow alert for Mumbai, Sindhudurg, and Palghar, predicting heavy to very heavy downpour in isolated areas. An orange alert has been issued for Thane, Raigad, and Ratnagiri districts in Maharashtra’s Konkan region. The weather agency also issued an orange alert for Mumbai for July 13th, indicating the possibility of heavy showers. Residents should be prepared for a wet spell over the next few days, with a yellow alert in place from July 13th to July 15th.
Heavy rains lashed Mumbai city on July 12th morning, coinciding with the yellow alert. The IMD predicted heavy precipitation in Madhya Maharashtra on July 12th and issued an orange warning, the second highest level. In a press release dated July 11th, the IMD stated that isolated heavy rainfall is expected over Madhya Maharashtra until July 15th. Furthermore, the IMD forecasted very heavy rainfall in ghat areas of Madhya Maharashtra until July 15th.
IndiGo Airlines, in a social media post on X (formerly Twitter), warned about flight delays due to heavy rains and air traffic congestion in Mumbai. The post advised passengers to keep track of their flight status. The Mumbai weather tracker, ‘Mumbai Rains’, on X, predicted heavy to very heavy rains over Mumbai and surrounding areas in the next 48 hours, potentially leading to waterlogging. The rain is expected to be consistently moderate to heavy for at least the next 24-36 hours, with the western suburbs from Dadar, Worli, and Bandra anticipated to receive the most rainfall. Interior Mumbai Metropolitan Region (MMR) will also experience heavy rain.
