Huw Edwards, a prominent BBC broadcaster, has resigned from the Corporation due to medical advice. The BBC confirmed his departure, emphasizing that he did not receive any compensation.
Edwards’ resignation follows suspension in July over allegations that he paid a young person £35,000 for explicit images. BBC Newsnight reported further claims from staff members alleging inappropriate messages from Edwards.
The BBC apologized to the parents of the young person involved in the initial revelations. The family had criticized the BBC’s handling of the complaint. An independent report revealed the mishandling of the original complaint.
Edwards’ wife, Vicky Flind, disclosed that Edwards was receiving hospital treatment for mental health issues. While suspended, he was reportedly receiving his full salary of £435,000 a year.
