Prabhas’ highly anticipated sci-fi epic, Kalki 2898 AD, has taken the box office by storm, shattering records and setting a new benchmark for South Indian films. The movie, directed by Nag Ashwin, boasts a star-studded cast including Deepika Padukone, Amitabh Bachchan, and Kamal Haasan, and has been hailed as one of the most expensive Indian films ever made, with a production budget exceeding ₹ 600 crore.
On its opening day, the film raked in an impressive ₹ 95.3 crore net, demonstrating the immense fan following of Prabhas, known for his role in the blockbuster film ‘Bahubali’. The film’s success continued throughout the weekend, with a whopping ₹ 154.4 crore net collected over Saturday and Sunday.
By the end of its five-day run, Kalki 2898 AD had minted a phenomenal ₹ 343.6 crore net. However, the film saw a steep decline on Monday, collecting ₹ 34.6 crore net, a 60.77 percent drop from its Sunday collection.
Despite the Monday slump, Kalki 2898 AD has already achieved remarkable milestones. Prabhas, in a post on X, shared that the film’s overseas weekend collection had crossed $18.4 million (₹ 153 crore), making it the second highest for any South Indian film after ‘Baahubali 2’.
According to Sacnilk estimates, the film’s overall overseas collection totals ₹ 146 crore gross, while its domestic market business stands at ₹ 369 crore gross. The film’s worldwide gross collection for the opening weekend is estimated to be ₹ 515 crore, setting a new all-time record for any Indian film.
Kalki 2898 AD has received widespread praise for its compelling narrative, captivating on-screen chemistry between Prabhas and Deepika Padukone, and the reunion of legendary actors Amitabh Bachchan and Kamal Haasan after 39 years.
