Kalki 2898 AD, the highly anticipated sci-fi epic directed by Nag Ashwin and produced by Vyjayanthi Movies, was released on June 27th. Starring some of the biggest names in Indian cinema, including Prabhas, Deepika Padukone, Amitabh Bachchan, and Kamal Haasan, the film has generated immense excitement since its announcement. The dystopian drama has already achieved remarkable box office success, earning over ₹732.8 crore globally. This impressive performance has fueled speculation about the film’s OTT release, which is anticipated to be soon.
Reports suggest that Prime Video India will stream Kalki 2898 AD in Telugu, Tamil, Kannada, and Malayalam languages. Netflix India will offer the Hindi version, as per the publications. While the Bollywood version might be delayed, other language versions could start streaming on Prime Video India around August 15th, according to sources. However, the Independence Day release for Kalki 2898 AD’s digital premiere is still unconfirmed.
It is worth noting that Prabhas’ previous release, Salaar: Part 1—Ceasefire, hit theaters on December 22nd. The film reportedly cost ₹ 270 crore to make and collected over ₹ 400 crore after running in theaters for six weeks. Salaar: Part 1—Ceasefire was later available on Netflix on January 20th for all languages, except Hindi. The Hindi version was released on Disney+ Hotstar on February 16th.
Kalki 2898 AD garnered immense interest even before its release. On the release date itself, the film earned ₹114 crore. In its first week, the Prabhas starrer managed to earn ₹494.5 crore. It went on to collect ₹151.75 crore in the second week and ₹66.05 crore in the third. After July 21st (4th Sunday), the total box office collection stands at ₹732.8 crore (gross). The film collected the lion’s share of ₹270.5 crore in the Andra Pradesh/ Telangana zone. Media reports state that the movie was made with ₹600 crore, though the makers have claimed it has earned more than ₹1,000 crore.
With its impressive box office success and the growing anticipation for its OTT release, Kalki 2898 AD is poised to become one of the biggest entertainment events of the year.
