Lee Urges Biden to Avoid Political Lawfare, Republican Senators Vow to Block Democrat Priorities

Senator Mike Lee (R-UT) has urged President Joe Biden to refrain from continuing a cycle of political lawfare, warning that it could have detrimental consequences for American politics. He implored Biden to reconsider the guilty verdict against former President Donald Trump and to avoid retaliatory lawfare.

Lee’s concerns stem from the recent guilty verdict against Trump on 34 counts of falsifying business records by a New York jury. In response, Republican senators, led by Lee, have pledged not to cooperate with Democrat legislative priorities or nominations in the Senate.

They believe that the verdict has politicized the judicial system and that those responsible should be held accountable. The pledge, which has garnered support from 14 senators, including National Republican Senatorial Committee Chair Steve Daines (R-MT) and Sen. Rick Scott (R-FL), is intended to pressure Democrats into addressing the issue.

Lee expressed confidence that more Republican senators would join the movement and anticipated that Democrats would face increasing pressure to respond. He dismissed concerns about a potential government shutdown, stating that a stopgap funding bill is likely when current appropriations expire in September.

The White House has not provided any comment on the matter.
