Miss USA Cheslie Kryst’s memoir, co-authored by her mother April Simpkins, titled ‘By The Time You Read This,’ reveals her battle with depression and mental illness.
Kryst, who died at the age of 30 in 2022, faced difficulties after becoming the oldest Miss USA winner at the age of 28. In an excerpt of the memoir published on PEOPLE, she discussed the online bullying and ageist criticism she received on social media.
Kryst’s memoir explores her struggle with imposter syndrome and the pressure she felt to prove herself. Her mother, April Simpkins, found a note asking her to complete the memoir after Kryst’s death.
Proceeds from the book, which debuts on April 23rd, will be donated to the Cheslie C. Kryst Foundation, which focuses on mental health for youth and young adults.
Since Kryst’s death, Simpkins has spoken openly about her daughter’s struggles and the importance of mental health awareness.
