Mumbai Braces for Heavy Rains, Orange Alert Issued for City and Surrounding Districts

The Maximum City of Mumbai is gearing up for heavy rainfall as the India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued an orange alert for the city and its surrounding districts. This alert comes on the heels of an earlier warning of heavy rainfall in the next 3-4 hours for Mumbai and its suburbs.

The IMD has predicted heavy to very heavy rainfall in the Palghar, Thane, Raigad and Ratnagiri districts of Konkan from August 24th onwards. In addition to Mumbai, the orange alert also extends to Pune and Satara districts of western Maharashtra and Amravati, Bhandara, Chandrapur and Gondia districts of Vidarbha.

An orange alert is a warning issued for extreme weather conditions. It signifies that rainfall exceeding 64.5 mm in 24 hours is anticipated, potentially disrupting normal life and causing flooding in low-lying areas.

Visuals shared by news agency PTI on social media platform X show mild rainfall in Mumbai in the morning. However, the city and its neighbouring districts, including Thane and Palghar, are expected to receive heavy rainfall over the next few days.

The Met department has also placed some districts of Konkan and western Maharashtra on orange alert on August 25 and August 26. Citizens are advised to take precautions and stay informed about the latest weather updates.
