Mumbai Braces for Heavy Rains, Yellow Alert Issued for City and Thane

Mumbai and its suburbs are expected to receive heavy rainfall on July 27, according to an update from the Regional Meteorological Centre (RMC). A yellow alert has been issued for Mumbai and Thane today. The city has been experiencing heavy rainfall for the past few days, leading to waterlogging in several areas.

The RMC has predicted moderate to heavy rainfall in the city and suburbs for the next 24 hours, accompanied by occasional gusty winds reaching 40-50 kmph. The maximum and minimum temperatures are expected to be around 30°C and 25°C, respectively.

Beyond Mumbai, other parts of Maharashtra are also bracing for heavy rainfall. Pune, Raigad, Ratnagiri, and Satara are all set to experience very heavy rains today, prompting an orange alert from the India Meteorological Department (IMD).

Earlier on Friday, Mumbai University postponed all exams in the Raigad and Ratnagiri districts due to the heavy rain alerts issued by the IMD. The postponement was announced by Mumbai University’s Director of Examination and Evaluation Board, Pooja Roudale.

Meanwhile, the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) has levied a total fine of 50.53 lakh on contractors due to delays in road repairs and inadequate road maintenance during the monsoon season. Many major and minor roads throughout the city are filled with potholes, causing significant difficulties for motorists, particularly two-wheeler riders, and often resulting in traffic congestion.
