Mumbai Rains Cause Flight Disruptions, Diversions, and Delays

Mumbai experienced heavy rainfall on Wednesday evening, causing significant disruptions at the Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport. The downpour led to at least seven flights making a go-around, meaning they circled the airport before attempting to land again, while two flights were diverted to other airports.

The airport’s public relations officer reported seven go-arounds and two flight diversions until 8:09 pm, according to ANI. Vistara Airlines confirmed that their flight from Delhi to Mumbai was diverted to Hyderabad due to bad weather, and a flight from Hyderabad to Mumbai had to return to Hyderabad. The airline kept passengers informed through posts on X (formerly Twitter), providing estimated arrival times for the affected flights.

SpiceJet and IndiGo airlines also issued advisories to passengers, acknowledging the impact of the heavy rain on flight schedules. IndiGo urged passengers to monitor their flight status and allow extra time for travel to the airport. SpiceJet stated that departures and arrivals, along with consequential flights, could be affected due to the weather, advising passengers to check their flight status.

One commuter, who was scheduled to fly with IndiGo at 9:35 pm, expressed concern about potential delays caused by the rain and traffic congestion. They highlighted the impact of the weather on travel time and urged the airline to consider delaying the flight due to the challenges faced by passengers.

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) issued a red alert for Mumbai, warning of continued heavy rainfall until 8 am on Thursday. This weather event is a reminder of the impact of monsoon rains on Mumbai and the importance of staying informed about weather updates and potential travel disruptions.
