Mumbai, Thane, and Adjoining Areas Hit by Rains and Dust Storm

Mumbai, Thane, and adjoining areas experienced a much-needed respite from the scorching heat on Monday afternoon as heavy rains accompanied by a dust storm, lightning, gusty winds, and thunder lashed the region. The Regional Meteorological Center (RMC) issued a yellow alert for Thane, Palghar, Raigad, Solapur, Latur, Beed, Nagpur, Ratnagiri, and Sindhudurg districts, warning of thunderstorms with lightning and gusty winds at isolated places. Mumbai is expected to receive light rain and thunder showers, with maximum and minimum temperatures hovering around 35°C and 28°C, respectively, according to the RMC. Meanwhile, an orange alert has been issued for Pune, Satara, Sangli, Nashik, Kolhapur, Ahmednagar, Aurangabad, Jalna, and Parbhani districts, where thunderstorms with lightning, gusty winds (50-60 kmph), and hail are likely at isolated places. Independent meteorologist Rushikesh Agre advised residents in Thane and Palghar to stay indoors due to heavy to intense rain and wind speeds reaching 40-50 kmph. Marathwada districts are also expected to witness thundershowers, gusty winds, and light to moderate rain. For Tuesday, the RMC forecasts isolated pockets of Mumbai to experience hot and humid conditions with a possibility of heatwave conditions. Rain or thundershowers are likely towards the evening, accompanied by thunderstorms, lightning, and gusty winds at isolated places. Social media users took to microblogging platforms to share photos and videos of the rain and dusty winds.
