Prince Harry and Meghan Markle have temporarily halted their search for a new UK home. This decision comes as they await the resolution of their ongoing dispute with the Home Office regarding taxpayer-funded security arrangements. In February, the Duke of Sussex lost his High Court challenge against the government concerning his security in the UK. He contested the decision to reduce his security status following his departure from royal duties, arguing that it was unfair given the persistent security threats he faces. Harry intends to appeal the court’s ruling, maintaining that his family’s safety is at risk without adequate security protection in the UK.
“Harry really does want to spend more time in the UK but doesn’t feel comfortable doing that until the security issues have been ironed out,” a source told The Express. Prince Harry’s legal battle began in 2020. After the High Court upheld the government’s decision in February, it rejected Harry’s appeal request in April. However, the Court of Appeal agreed to hear his case following a direct plea from his lawyers. “He and Meghan planned on looking for a part-time home near Windsor this year and hoped that the appeals process would be heard before the end of July so that they could properly start their search. However, the court process seems to be taking its time,” the source added.
Harry-Meghan’s decision to pause their home search coincides with the continued strain in their relationship with Prince William and Kate Middleton. While tension has always existed, it intensified after the Duke of Sussex published his memoir, Spare. The Netflix series Harry & Meghan further exacerbated the situation, with the couple expressing their feelings about William and Kate. Nevertheless, the atmosphere reportedly shifted positively after Princess Kate was diagnosed with cancer. According to a source speaking to OK! Magazine, Harry now desires a closer relationship with his niece and nephew in Britain, particularly for his own children, who have limited contact with William’s family.
A Royal Family source revealed that Harry feels guilty about the lack of a relationship between his children and their cousins. Archie and Lilibet are unfamiliar with their only cousins, George, Charlotte, and Louis. Harry hoped his children would grow up around William and Kate’s children, fostering a close bond between the cousins.
