A suspect has been arrested in connection with a disturbing case of puppy abuse in Santa Ana, California. The incident, which was captured on video, occurred on Wednesday morning near Dahl Lane.
According to authorities, a woman turned herself in on Friday and was booked into the Santa Ana Jail, facing animal cruelty charges. The video shows the suspect taking the 2-month-old Rottweiler out of a grey Chevrolet Suburban. A minute later, the suspect ran over the puppy and drove away.
A good Samaritan who heard the dog in distress rushed to help. Police say the suspect returned to the scene but continued driving. Animal Control officers transported the puppy to an animal hospital for emergency surgery. The puppy sustained a broken rib cage but is expected to make a full recovery. She is currently being cared for at the Orange County Animal Shelter.
