Mizoram Chief Minister Lalduhoma has informed Prime Minister Narendra Modi that his government cannot deport Zo refugees from Bangladesh. Nearly 2,000 Zo people have sought refuge in Mizoram over the past two years due to a military crackdown in Bangladesh.

The All India Football Federation (AIFF) has prohibited registered players, coaches, and referees from participating in ‘unapproved tournaments’. The seven-phase Lok Sabha Elections 2024 concluded on June 1. Various states in India have made the following arrangements for the vote counting day:
– Mizoram: Over 2,000 personnel will be deployed to facilitate the vote-counting process for the state’s lone Lok Sabha seat. A three-tier security arrangement has been implemented across 13 counting centers. Vote counting will commence at 8:00 AM with postal ballots and then EVMs.
– Telangana: Warangal constituency has 7 Assembly segments and 8 counting halls, including postal ballot counting halls. A staff of 1,200 has been deployed for counting and data entry. A three-tier barricading system and police personnel will ensure law and order.
– West Bengal: Repolling has been mandated at two polling stations due to clashes during the final phase of the polls. Repolling commenced at 7:00 AM and will end by 6:00 PM.
– Uttar Pradesh: Vote counting will commence at 8:00 AM in 75 districts and 81 counting centers. Additional observers have been appointed to ensure vigilant oversight.
– Jammu and Kashmir: A three-tier security arrangement has been implemented at the counting center in Kathua district. Stringent security checks will be in place, and vehicles will be checked for miscreants.
– Andhra Pradesh: TDP supremo Nara Chandrababu Naidu has directed counting agents to be present on time and ensure proper procedures during EVM transfer and counting. Candidates have been instructed to contact their legal teams in anticipation of potential clashes.
Cyclone ‘Remal’ has left a trail of destruction in Mizoram, claiming 27 lives and causing extensive damage to homes and infrastructure. Search and rescue operations are ongoing, with the State Disaster Response Force working alongside local authorities. Chief Minister Lalduhoma has announced an allocation of 15 crore from the State Disaster Relief Fund and ex-gratia payments for the deceased. Electricity and water supply have been disrupted due to damaged lines and pumps. The cyclone has also weakened and is now crossing Shillong and Jowai in Meghalaya. The Mizoram government has closed all offices and public sector units except those providing essential services and disaster management. Over 50 families have been relocated due to flooding, while around 150 houses have been demolished and roads blocked.
The death toll from a stone quarry collapse in Mizoram on Tuesday has risen to 17, with 12 people still missing. The collapse was caused by incessant rains, attributed to the impact of Cyclone Remal. Rescue efforts have been hampered by the heavy rainfall, which has also triggered landslides elsewhere in the state capital, cutting it off from the rest of the country.
The Mizoram Board of School Education (MBSE) is expected to declare the results of the MBSE HSLC Class 10th exams on May 14th at 12 pm. Students can check their results on the official MBSE website, mbse.edu.in or mbseonline.com. The exams were conducted from February 26 to March 15.
