During a roundtable discussion at 180 Church in Detroit on Saturday afternoon, Pastor Lorenzo Sewell thanked former President Donald Trump for visiting the Black community, emphasizing that it was the first time a president had done so in his memory. He contrasted Trump’s visit with those of Presidents Obama and Biden, who he said had not visited the community despite attending larger events in the area.
Trump’s visit was part of an effort to reach out to Black voters. He highlighted the Platinum Plan, a $500 billion investment in Black businesses and churches created during his presidency. Sewell praised the plan as a tangible step towards addressing the needs of the Black community.
While Trump focused on reaching out to Black voters in Detroit, Biden was attending a fundraiser in Los Angeles with former President Obama. The Biden campaign estimates that the event will raise at least $28 million.
Sewell’s remarks underscore the ongoing political divide in the United States, particularly regarding outreach to minority communities. While Trump has made efforts to connect with Black voters, Biden and Obama have focused on more traditional fundraising events.
