BBC Newscaster Huw Edwards Resigns After Scandal

Huw Edwards, a prominent newscaster on BBC, has stepped down from his position at the company due to medical reasons. The newscaster has not been seen on air since July last year when allegations surfaced claiming that he paid money in exchange for explicit photos.

According to a statement released by the BBC, “After 40 years of service, Huw has explained that his decision was made on the basis of medical advice from his doctors.” The corporation has accepted his resignation, which “will allow all parties to move forward.”

The 62-year-old presenter was responsible for delivering the news of Queen Elizabeth’s passing. He was also one of the highest-paid figures on BBC.

Edwards’ wife, Vicky Flind, revealed the allegations against her husband amidst his hospitalization for a severe mental health episode. She stated that Edwards would address the allegations upon his recovery.

Edwards began his career at the BBC as a trainee in 1984, later becoming a political reporter for BBC Wales. He subsequently became the parliamentary correspondent and BBC’s chief political correspondent at Westminster by the early 1990s. Edwards became a regular face on BBC News 24 when it launched in 1997. His impressive performance led to his appointment as one of the program’s main anchors in 1999.

Edwards also served as an occasional cover presenter on BBC One’s “Six O’Clock News” and was promoted to the “Ten O’Clock News” in 2003, where he frequently presented and commented on major national events.
